Frequently Asked Questions

Are there restrictions for non-Costa Rican nationals regarding ownership of property within the country?
Foreign buyers have the same rights as Costa Rican nationals when purchasing and owning real estate, with the exception of beachfront property which is granted in concession by the government. The Selva Libre property is outside the concession area.

What are the property taxes?
Property taxes in Costa Rica are significantly lower than in North America. They are currently set at ¼ of one percent of the registered property value and are payable on a quarterly or annual basis, at the election of the property owner.

Is the water safe to drink?
Yes. Unlike many other Latin countries, Costa Rica has similar practices and standards found in the U.S. for ensuring that clean, potable water is available to all its citizens.
